Sleep is life and one should have the mindset that depriving yourself of such should never be taken for granted. It affects everything you do. And imagine how much more of its effects on your own body.
Here we give you a list of how the body reacts to lack of sleep:
1. THE BODY AGES QUICKLY
Researchers have found that 30 out of 50 people were unhappy with their appearance due to the effects of lack of sleep in their skin. The elasticity of the skin was reduced making fine lines, wrinkles and age spots become even more noticeable.
2. THE BODY GETS SICK EASILY
It has been a fact that the body’s immune system and sleep are relative to each other. Since the body is sleep deprived, its defense mechanism against sickness is weak.
3. THE BODY WEIGHS MORE
People who sleep on an average of fewer than five hours a night have increased the risk of gain weight or obesity if the body is sleep deprived. This is proven by a study wherein the relationship between weight and sleep is evaluated in 21,000 adult participants.
4. THE BODY HAS AN INCREASED RISK FOR CANCER
People who have longer than seven hours of sleep per night had the lowest mortality rates in the group who participated in a research study. Certain types of cancer such as breast cancer, prostate cancer or even colorectal cancer had higher rates due to lack of sleep. All these were according to the statements given by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
With all these, you can see that the body is directly affected if it lacks sleep and you one should never neglect sleep. May this serve a lesson to everyone and motivate you to sleep.
5. WE EASILY FORGET THINGS.
Researchers have learned that our brain consolidates things when we sleep making it easier to recall. When we don’t sleep our brain can’t do its job, and our memory suffers.
