Check Out These 7 Body Organs That Can Be Surgically Removed And Still Can Live Without It.

It is really hard to believe that we could still be alive even if we lose some of our body parts cause every organ in the body has a purpose for our daily needs. That’s why it is nearly impossible to live by losing some them. In this article, we would like to share you the seven body parts that a person can live without that you didn’t know about.
Lung
Our lungs function mainly for gas exchange on our entire body. It is important in providing oxygen in our body tissues and also for the removal of carbon dioxide. But if one lung is surgically removed from a person in a method called pneumonectomy, the other lung would still compensate for about 70 to 80 percent lung function. Still, this would affect the other lung part to collapse and the cavity to be filled up with fluid that causes consolidation. This lung collapse is called atelectasis.
Kidney
Kidneys function is to filter out blood to release waste products and urine and also to retain water. They also regulate ion concentrations and acid-base balance of the blood. Similar to the lung, they also come in pairs. Despite this vital importance, it is possible to live with only one kidney. Although a person can live with one kidney, they will have to go on dialysis if the other kidney could not completely filter out the blood.
Stomach
Its function is to store and process food for digestion. Although it has an important role for one’s health, the stomach can be surgically removed if a malignancy or defect has been detected to prevent spread. With this, the esophagus can be connected directly to the small intestine. Some cases, the stomach is either removed or bypassed deliberately to aid in health problems such as obesity and other gastrointestinal organs are arranged to ensure patient’s well-being. Patients with these cases take food supplements and vitamins while having small meals for proper and adequate nourishment.
Spleen
The spleen is an organ that functions mainly for the immune system. It lies underneath the left side of the diaphragm behind the stomach. In adults, it’s about the size of the fist and its color is deep, purplish red color which is soft and spongy.
The spleen serves as a filter foreign bodies from the blood and is the graveyard for dead red blood cells.  In some cases like hypovolemia, hematologic disorders, and even hemorrhagic shock, the spleen produces red blood cells which it had stored if the body needs it. The spleen can be removed if it is infected or if it starts to damage healthy blood cells and platelets which might cause anemia or internal bleeding. Some doctors consider the spleen can be removed with no adverse effects.
Thymus Gland
The pinkish-gray thymus gland is a specialized lymphoid organ which is essential for the immune system. It is found between the lungs, behind the breastbone and in front of the heart. It is only active until puberty, and then it starts to disintegrate into a body of fat. It is called thymic involution. The reason it is usually removed is to gain access to the heart to correct congenital heart defects in neonates.

Thyroid
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland found in the neck which function is to take iodine from the blood to produce hormones such as thyroxine. This hormone is released directly into the bloodstream which enters the cells. These hormones aid the cells to regulate metabolism to convert oxygen and nutrients into energy and heat. A person without their thyroid gland could still live but they’ll need supplements for thyroid function for the rest of their lives.
Reproductive Organs
There are some case or procedure that needs to surgically remove their reproductive organ due to an injury or severe disease. A person without these organs could still live but might have some residuals and side effects all throughout their existence.
