How to Get the Healthy Benefits of Wine Without Getting Yourself Drunk?

You’ve heard the old rumors about having a nice glass of wine at some point in your day. Well those rumors are true, sort of. A nice glass of wine at night or during the day is actually good for your health, but how?

The relationship between red wine and heart disease seems to be beneficial for us. In fact, there have been some speculations as to whether or not red wine is doing all the good it claims to do.

Wine contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that has been linked to reducing blood pressure, reducing cholesterol, preventing stroke and preventing heart disease. However, the amount of antioxidants in red wine may be detrimental to reaping the health benefits of resveratrol.

The More the Merrier

A glass of wine contains roughly 0.2 milligrams to 2.0 milligrams of resveratrol. As you can see, depending on what kind of wine you are drinking your resveratrol intake may vary.

There are many ways in which you can get the benefits of resveratrol without consuming the negative benefits of wine. Wine can damage your immune system and ability to stay healthy.

Actually, it would take roughly 52 bottles of wine to get all the benefits of resveratrol. There has to be a better way because 52 bottles of wine is not recommended at all!

Stay Clear of Beer

Beer is a whole different story. A single beer per day is said to be not so bad for you. However, beer does not contain anything that really benefits your health. Besides the nutrients and foliate, which lowers the risk of heart disease, beer isn’t as good as you may think.

It actually takes the energy out of almost anyone, a couple beers later and you’ll be taking a seat on the couch. Experts recommend having one beer a day if you must, if not avoid it completely.

Here are a just a few different ways in which you can consume the benefits of resveratrol without actually drinking a glass of wine.

1. Itadori Tea

This traditional Japanese and Chinese herbal tea has been used for years to fend off heart disease and strokes. It contains high levels of resveratrol, which makes it a great substitute for wine, specifically red wine.

2. Red Grapes

A nice handful of red grapes can actually be more beneficial for you than red wine. All of the antioxidants that can be found in red wine can actually be found in the skin of red grapes. Along with minerals, manganese, potassium, vitamins C, K and B1. To be completely honest, I would prefer a nice bowl of grapes rather over a big glass of wine.

3. Blueberries

Blueberries are just as good for you as red grapes, well almost. They don’t contain as much resveratrol but they do contain some very useful antioxidants. You can also find a hefty amount of dietary fiber, vitamins K and C and manganese. So if you’re ever low on wine or red grapes go buy yourself some delicious blueberries.

4. Dark Chocolate

The main question here is who in the world would take glass of wine over a nice piece of dark chocolate? Not me, that’s for sure. Dark chocolate contains resveratrol that blends nicely with other antioxidants and minerals like iron, manganese and copper.

Leave the wine for a nice romantic evening. During the week, or if you don’t drink, enjoy any of these three foods or a nice cup of Itadori tea. Learn about more ways to reap the benefits of resveratrol at live science.
