We All Love the Italian Wonder Known as PIZZA, But are We Fully Aware of Its Health Hazards?

We all love pizza. It is world’s favorite food. However, most people today aren’t fully aware of its dangers, as it is packed with calories, saturated fat and sodium.

That first slice sure looks yummy, but…

A single slice of pizza has approximately 311 calories. The question is, can you stick to one piece of pizza?

If you put aside the number of calories you eat, it is also important to know what actually happens to your body after you eat a slice of pizza.

After 10 minutes

The first bites activates centers of pleasure in your brain, but the soon you get to the crust, the less you will enjoy. While you enjoy eating your pizza, your digestive tract releases enzymes that break up carbohydrates into sugars. Your body uses these sugars later as a “fuel.”

After 10-15

Sugar starts circulating in your body, but fats from the cheese slow down this movement. You will feel much awake, but you may experience bloating, because your body still dissolves the food. This process releases gasses, especially when you eat too much or too fast.

After 15-20 minutes

Leptin is a hormone that “tells” you to stop eating, and it is levels increase along with glucose levels in cells. If you keep eating, your cells will stop absorbing sugar, which is then sent to the liver.

Sugars are later transformed and stored as fat.

After 30 minutes

If you still do not feel full, you will experience an energy boost, and your body will start producing the ghrelin, or the hunger hormone. Your body starts dissolving fats, but fats in pizza are saturated and they may clog your arteries.

This especially applies to those who like eating their fast food regularly and those who are genetically predisposed to this condition.

After 45-60 minutes

Your blood pressure goes up, leptin levels increase, so you do not feel hungry.

After 3-4 hours

Sugar levels are normal again, and your body starts producing ghrelin hormone again. Triglycerides from dissolved fats are still high, so you better go for a low-fat snack.

Regular consumption of pizza may not only bring you extra pounds, but health problems as well. It may not affect your health or appearance in an instant, but sooner or later it will manifest. If you think of getting another slice of pizza, just cut down on your eating.

Just do it right, and you’ll be fine.
