These days, there’s a lot of information crammed onto our food packaging. Aside from standard marketing, there is information about the contents of the food in the package, like nutritional data and the ingredients, but there are other things as well.

Once again, the internet is abuzz wondering exactly what these little circles on the packaging mean.
These circles, seen at the bottom of this chip bag, are called “printer’s color blocks” or “process control patches.
The swatches of ink were used to produce the designs on the packaging. These dots allow the printer to check that the bags were printed properly.
In some cases, they also tell machines where to cut the packaging.
Often times, less reputable websites and sources will say that the colors mean something. Like if it’s green, it’s organic. If it’s black, it’s GMO. And so on. This is, however, definitely not the case.

| But still, reading the packaging contents is the best practice. |
The only sure way to know what’s in your food is by reading the labels and understanding what the ingredients are. Period.
