We’re All Beer Lovers and Surprisingly, They are Healthy Too! Just Stay Along Within These Tips For Better Beer Experience

People usually do not associate beer with health, but it turns out that it might be healthier than we thought. There is definitely some clear evidence that drinking a lot of beer is bad for you, but enjoying beer in moderation might actually be part of a healthy lifestyle. For one thing, beer has no fat, it is cholesterol free, and it is low in carbohydrates. Per serving, beer is much healthier than soda and other sugary drinks. If you have a choice between a glass of cola and a beer, the beer is honestly the healthier option.

Beer also has most of the nutrients that healthy grains have, like B vitamins, riboflavin, niacin, and zinc, not to mention potassium, calcium, and phosphorus. Those are essential nutrients, which means you need a certain amount of them for your body to function properly. While it is true that there are healthier ways to get your daily nutrients, it is worth noting that you will be getting them when you drink a beer. You will also be getting some antioxidants, which can help your body fight disease.

Drinking beer in moderation could even reduce your risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and Alzheimer’s, and reduce weight gain. Many of these benefits are unproven, but there is some evidence to suggest at least a correlation between moderate beer consumption and a lowered risk of certain health problems. That said, you should not use this as an excuse to drink as much beer as you want. Here are a few tips you should heed to stay healthy while enjoying beer.

Ultra-Light Beers Are Bad News

You have seen them advertised. They are for sale in the beer aisle at the grocery store. Ultra-light beers that boast low calorie counts are not as healthy as they seem. They usually substitute out the regular grains, which means that you will not be getting some of the nutrients a regular beer has. Plus, light beers are usually not that much lower calorie than regular beers, so you might as well avoid them. Regular beers taste better, and they are probably better for you too.

Choose A Beer You Like

When you are drinking beer but you want to keep it healthy, the key is quantity over quality. Choose a tasty beer you like, and enjoy it slowly. You definitely do not want to drink enough to get drunk, so you might as well nurse a beer that tastes great. That way, you will end up drinking less, but you will enjoy it a lot more.

Do Not Eat Bar Food

If you are getting a beer with your friends at a bar or pub, you may be tempted to order some bar food to go along with your beer. There are a couple of problems with this. First of all, bar food is almost always fried, and full of fat. You will gain more weight munching on bar food than you ever will drinking a few beers. Second, bar food is designed to make you thirsty. All that fried and salty food is there purely to get you to drink your beer faster and order another one. If you are steadily eating chili fries, you are probably drinking more than you would have if you were not eating. Even if there are free snacks like nuts or pretzels at the bar, try to avoid them. They are a trap. You will definitely get more enjoyment from savoring one or two delicious beers on their own.

Stay Hydrated

It is always a good idea to drink lots of water and stay hydrated, but it is especially important when you are drinking. Alcohol of any kind causes dehydration, because it is a diuretic. If you know you are planning on drinking at a certain time, make sure to drink plenty of water that day. If you go out to a bar, order one glass of water with each beer you drink. That way, you can replenish the water you are losing. Not only will staying hydrated make you feel better all night, it will also help you recover faster if you drink one or two too many.

Eat Before You Drink

If you are going out for drinks, or even if you are just enjoying a beer at home, it is a good idea to eat a full meal before you start. For one thing, you will be fuller, and you will not want to drink as much. When you are full, your body also absorbs alcohol slower, so you will not be as affected by a couple of drinks. Plus, if you already ate, you will not be tempted to eat any unhealthy bar food. You can enjoy your drinks and socialize with your friends without worrying about overeating or drinking too much. Beer is delicious. Be smart, drink less, and savor every sip for good health.
